What is Statuemap.com?

The community of Statuemap collects and shares pictures of public art from all over the world. The users upload their photos of statues and provide basic information and short description of the artworks.

How can I upload my photos and make a new artpage?

You have to sign up and upon login you get access to the upload page. If you are sure that the statue is not there yet, you can go ahead and upload it. First you have to add the metadata, then place the statue on the map and after first save you create the artpage. Once the artpage is created, you can upload your photo(s). When you are done with it, save the artpage again and hit the Publish button.

What if the artwork is already on the site?

If somebody else has already uploaded the same artwork before you, don't be disappointed, just add your own photos of the artwork together with your own info (metadata, description) by using a Hug.

Can I upload photos about everything or are there any rules about what is allowed and what not?

You can only upload photos about public artworks. This means the photo's main subject should be the artwork itself. You need to have the right to upload the photos, otherwise the Hug may be deleted by the site admins.

Is there any special issue to know about the map functions within the upload page?

We use a so called "reverse geocoding", a third party tool, to determine the city name from the current position of the marker. It may happen that this function is off sometimes and in such case the given city name may be incorrect or the field may be empty. In this case please type in the city name yourself.

Why should I add Title and English title, too?

Usually the title of the artwork is in the local language of the country of origin, but because the Statuemap is an international website, we communicate in English and try to share information with more and more people worldwide.

What is a Hug?

If you like somebody you hug her/him, don't you? Statuemap is a peace - and love -driven community and we provide new metadata, descriptions and photos via Hugs. They look like comments, but because of the strong interaction among community members, their effect is much deeper and valuable.

How will a Hug be accepted and what does this mean, what is this Vote link?

Each Hug means "treatment" or "improvement" and the community can vote if it was a valuable additional comment to the existing information or not. After 5 votes from the Statuemap members or 1 vote from the creator of the artpage, Description-Hugs and Meta-Hugs change to "accepted", meaning that they replace the initial Hugs. By voting for a Photo-Hug, you admit it is a valuable, nice picture, and the most voted photos become the cover of the artpage. Moreover, these most-voted pictures will be displayed on the start page as well.

What is the Report link next to the Vote link?

If a Hug is not a real added value to the existing info, or it is malicious and hurts someone or our terms, you can Report it. Every report is important and very valuable to us, as this is the best way to help us keep our site 'clean', therefore we thank you for your contribution!

How can I edit the Artpage that I posted originally?

After you publish it, the artpage can be modified only through its Hugs, so the developing process remains transparent. If you are not sure about the accuracy of your metadata, just keep it in your draft folder and publish it just after you feel you've done your best.

What will happen if I follow an Artpage?

You will get updates in your own feed about Hugs and Hug-votes. You can reach your own feed on the starter page, after login.

What can I see if I follow a user?

You get updates on her or his activity, including uploads, Hugs and Hug-votes.

What can I see if I follow a city or an artist?

You will see that whenever there is a new upload, this is connected to the respective artist and city. This is the best way to keep track of your favorite artists and places!
